On the 1st May 1994, Ayrton Senna, the man I considered my sporting hero, and still consider as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, was killed in an accident at Tamburello corner in the San Marino Grand Prix.
That weekend of racing seemed fated from the outset with the tragic loss of Roland Ratzenberger in the Simtek during the sessions on Saturday, and also a very bad accident involving Rubens Barrichello in the Friday Sessions, Sunday saw an accident at the start of the race, all culminating in the tragedy which befell Senna soon after the restart. Now, 17 years on, a documentary movie has been released depicting his life and career. I recently watched the movie, and found it to be a compelling piece of work. Add Comment Vodafone – We’ve Made an Error.... Tough. 17/05/2011
Ok, so I woke up this morning to find the helpful people at Vodafone have suspended my service for non payment of a bill.... apparently.
I have to say I was quite surprised by this given that I had set the account up on a direct debit at the end of March, and received a confirmation letter of a direct debit set up in early April. So I get my email later in April telling my bill is ready, fine, if I’m honest I don’t bother to look at it as my bills don’t vary that much. Now, the bank account I was using didn’t have internet banking set up, so you can’t just login to check what’s gone out, so what I did do was check the Vodafone billing website to check the payment had gone out, I was presented with a screen showing me a zero balance. Most of us would then assume that the payment has been taken, and there’s nothing to worry about, right? Apparently that is not correct. Well done Sony, I don’t have to say I told you so....
From the 20th April until 15th May the PSN has been offline. Almost four weeks. After the firmware update being released early this morning, and the promise that we would be online again today, we can now access the online gaming world again. They’ve only just managed it today. It took until 18:45 BST (or there abouts). Word on the internet is that PSN is due back online, partially at least, later today.
When I switched on my PS3 this morning, I was prompted to download firmware version 3.61, which we’re told is the update which will force users to change their password as soon as PSN comes back on line in their territory. Some speculation on the web is that people have had to try multiple times to download the file due to receiving numerous errors, I have to say my update downloaded first time with no problems. The Idiots of the World 14/05/2011
It’s usually something like a BBC 3 documentary about teenage mothers. It opens on the “star”. She’s sitting on a sofa, probably in a house which is somewhere like Peterlee, a cigarette in one hand and an overflowing ashtray perched on one knee. Her stomach is huge. Then the camera moves through to the next room, where we see her mother, smoking a little smack and telling reporters that she’s very proud of her daughter. No, sorry love, that’s the wrong word. You’re not proud. You’re a stupid waste of the world’s resources. The people in such documentaries are not alone. In fact, I am becoming increasingly concerned with the sheer number of properly idiotic people who call Britain home. I Love What the Media Feel they Need Report 13/05/2011
It is currently 9:26pm on Friday the 13th, I’m sitting watching TV with my wife and dog, and keeping a brief eye on the internet, when up pops a tweet from CNN’s breaking news Twitter feed.
The headline states “Porn Found in Osama Bin Laden’s Compound”...... Why do they feel the need to report this? The entire story was six lines long, all of which are quoted below Twitpic Attempt to Calm Copyright Argument 12/05/2011
Many people who are regularly online will have heard about the changes Twitpic, a picture posting service primarily used through Twitter, made to the terms of service they place on their users. Ultimately, it seemed very apparent that they were essentially stating they can do whatever they wish with any images you upload, including things like selling them on or transferring license over images to other parties. There have been a number of things written regarding this, and so I don’t have to recap the whole saga, let me direct you to an old school friend of mine who hits the nail on the head. His post can be found here: http://www.shepy.co.uk/blog/2011/05/why-i-have-left-twitpic-and-why-you-should-too/ As mentioned the above linked article, the issue arose regarding images on Twitpic following changes made to the service's terms on 10 May. (Shepy quotes the amended section from the ToS). PlayStation Network Still Offline 11/05/2011
Anyone who has a PS3 will be very aware that the PlayStation Network (PSN) has been offline since around the 20th April. Sony have made various statements on this, and ultimately what has happened is that the PSN and the Qriocity media service have suffered an “external intrusion.” A brief timeline of events looks something like this: As I am currently deciding on names for my soon to arrive child, I thought it a good time to consider children’s names, and some the of ridiculousness it can cause.
There are two things you must remember when someone rings to say they’ve just produced an offspring. First, and for no obvious reason, you must ask how much it weighs, and second, you must try not to drop the phone when they tell you what name they’ve chosen. ‘Chardonnay?’ you have to say in measured tones. ‘How very, ummmm, oaky.’ I was slightly alarmed today when a doctor today suggested it might be a good idea to lose some weight.
Frankly, in any chart of ‘things you don’t want to hear’, being told to lose weight in a doctor’s surgery ranks alongside your girlfriend peering at a swab and saying, ‘Ooh, it’s gone all blue.’ This means, according to the doctor, doing exercise, and therefore needing sports clothes. |
